December brought many memorable holiday activities! Some of our favorites were Grinch Day, caroling, and watching our book buddies' holiday musical. We will be excited to join back together in January to hear about our adventures while on break!

Scarecrow, scarecrow, how scary can you be?
You scared the kindergartners, but you didn't scare me!

During our study of bats, we created a chart full of all our new learning on these creatures of the night. Watch our ebook below and maybe you will learn a new fact or two about bats as well!

Our study of scarecrows brought us lots of fun and learning! We read many great scarecrow books, created a scarecrow poem, and even made our own scarecrows thanks to Tanner's mom! If you would like some music with the slide show below, just click on the speaker to turn it on or off. Enjoy!

I am finally getting our pics together from our Fair Haven Farms trip in October. These pictures turned out too fantastic not to put a slide show together! A huge thank you to Violet's mom, Amy, for joining us at the farm and taking many wonderful pictures. As you will see from the slide show, we enjoyed fresh fall fruits and learned about how to grow, take care of, and pick these fruits. The hike around the farm invited us to use our five senses to see the signs of fall first hand!

Signs of Fall

During our daily morning meeting, we have been talking about "good friends". We have shared what we notice about friends and how we can be a better friend to everyone in our class. Here is a book that shares some of our ideas.

Thanks to Tanner's mom, earlier this month we made fun pumpkins with our fourth grade book buddies. The fourth graders did a great job teaching us what to do and made sure we did most of the work. We thought it was pretty silly that the pumpkins were made out of a roll of toilet paper!

We were very excited for our first writing celebration! After each writing unit, we will take time to celebrate all the great things we are doing as writers. For this celebration we had a "circle share" where we each shared a favorite page from one of our many books written this month. Then we gathered together for a "toast" with orange punch! Here's to 8 more months of great stories! Cheers!

Go Cardinals! One of our favorite memories so far was the morning of the Homecoming pep fest. We loved hearing the band play, seeing the sports captains, and cheering along with the cheerleaders. We even got our picture taken with the Cardinal!
Below is the video shown at Explore Kindergarten Night. Check out some of our daily kindergarten routines!

It is amazing to think we have only been in school 12 days! Wow, we are really becoming experts at our routines! We are thankful we have still been able to spend time outside each day. We are glad to be running out of boxes on the "sun" line of our daily weather graph! Check out some of our favorite outside activities - watermelon and bubbles!

A new school year is upon us! The new Kindergarten Beach Buddies are busy getting to know each other during these first 3 days of school. Let us introduce ourselves!

For our Earth Day celebration on April 22nd, we had an Inventions Party! All week we collected items from home that could be recycled. We had everything from old boots and milk cartons to ribbon and cereal boxes. Wow, we had some neat ideas! Check them out below.

During our transportation study, we each chose one kind of transportation to explore in more depth. As one of our projects, we created our mode of transportation out of clay. What budding artists we have!

Hawaii...we wish we could go back again! Not only did we do the limbo, fly in a plane, and do the hula, but we also wrote postcards home, "wrote the room" in Hawaii with flower pens, and read a Hawaii A-Z book. Aloha!
By reading books to other people, we become stronger readers. We still enjoy our monthly visits to the Annandale Care Center and loved our 2 Family Reading Nights this winter. Before spring break we had Pastries for Parents where we shared the How-To books we wrote ourselves as well as other favorite books in the classroom. Check out this slide show with pictures of our many reading opportunities. Thank you for helping us develop our reading skills!

Last month we met our at home Razzle Dazzle reading goal. To celebrate, we were invited to bring a stuffed animal to read with during a surprise "Stop, Drop, and Read" time. Take a peek at these smarties!

Each day we spend time making ourselves stronger readers and writers during smart shops. Today we used our camera to catch some of these smarties in action!

Last Thursday we took our first trip to the Annandale Assisted Living Care Center. We read our "just right" book basket books to our friends there. Wow, we were hard working, patient, and mature kinders while there. Here are some pictures of our visit.

Before winter break, we were busy with many fun holiday activities. We baked cookies, made holiday hats, went caroling around the school, and of course ate our gingerbread cookies! We then made a graph showing where we took our first bite - leg, arm, or head! Below is some live video of our fun days together.

Welcome to our first ever Kindergarten Beach Buddies' blog! We are just getting back from our 2 week winter break. We can't wait to see each other again and hear about all the adventures from our time away.
Earlier in the year, we read and shared our thinking about our "forever books". These special books from home were ones we had heard many times growing up and love to hear them again and again. Get to know the Beach Buddies in the slide show below and see our "forever books".
